Summary
Treatment and prevention of STH infections is included in Uganda’s national health policy and an important component of Uganda’s School Health Program. Between 1998 and 2005, baseline surveys of STH prevalence were conducted in 46 of Uganda 56 districts. The overall prevalence of Ascaris, Trichuris, and hookworm was 6.3%, 5.0% and 43.5%, respectively. Since 2004, Uganda has been successfully deworming children through Child Health Days Plus. Treatment activities are coordinated by the Child Health Days Plus Multi-sectoral Committee, which includes the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Water, Lands, and Environment, and the Ministry of Education and Sports.
