Progress Report Presents Focused Messages
The third progress report since the London Declaration, released on June 25, highlights the health and economic benefits of investing in NTDs and provides a snapshot of where each of the 10 NTDs of focus are in meeting WHO NTD roadmap targets.
It also provides some valuable messages that people working in the NTD community can use in their communications with potential partners.
Topline messages from the report include:
- Controlling and eliminating NTDs is one of the best buys in global health. In fact, the control and elimination of NTDs is one of the best buys in global health.
- Countries are increasingly and successfully leading the fight against NTDs. The 2014 Addis Ababa Commitment on NTDs is but one example of endemic countries leading the way in controlling and eliminating NTDs. Other countries, including Bangladesh, the Philippines, and Honduras are securing resources to support their NTD programs. Some endemic countries – including Nigeria and Brazil – are providing support to other countries in a variety of ways.
- We have broad, committed global partnerships supporting countries in the fight against NTDs. NTD drug donation programs are the largest public health drug donations in the world – and they continue to grow. Several NTDs – including STH, with the STH Coalition – have coalitions committed to controlling or eliminating their diseases of focus.
