Experts issue a call to strengthen the global strategy against soil-transmitted helminthiasis and schistosomiasis. Eighteen NTD experts, including CWW Scientific Advisor David Addiss, call for revisions of the global strategy for treating STH and schistosomiasis in a recent publication. They recommend changing the current strategy of treating children to treating communities to reduce morbidity and reinfection. The authors stress the need for guidance tailored to meet specific programmatic goals (i.e., morbidity control or elimination of transmission) and helminth epidemiology. In addition, they advocate for crucial complementary interventions: water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) interventions and information, education, and communication (IEC) programs.
