Children Without Worms (CWW), through a grant from Johnson & Johnson, supports HKI/Cambodia, the Ministry of Health, and the Department of School Health (DSH) within the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport to develop and test a primary level curriculum. This curriculum is designed to increase knowledge about soil-transmitted helminths (STH) infection and to promote behaviors that will help reduce its transmission.

The project, which began September 2009, will be carried out in two phases. HKI already completed the first phase, working with the DSH to perform a situational analysis that:

  1. Inventoried curricular materials relevant to hygiene, sanitation and the control of STHs.
  2. Identified other groups that are currently working in school health.
  3. Developed a minimum package of school health materials by using existing materials and producing additional materials that were needed.

This situational analysis will be followed by an implementation phase in which the curriculum is developed, disseminated and piloted in a number of test regions. By field-testing the curriculum, HKI will evaluate the curriculum and implement any changes determined necessary.
